Time Article:China's response to US arms deals with Taiwan

Congress announced on Wednesday that it would sign a $5.85 billion arms deal with Taiwan to equip the outdated Taiwan airforce with much needed modern armaments. China regards this as a direct threat to them as they believe Taiwan must eventually be reinstated into the peoples republic of China and the US arms deal is creating friction for that to happen. In the past US dealings with china's enemies resulted in a 1 year cut in the US's alliance with China, and Taiwan proposes buying up to $6.5 billion more in future deals. If the US goes through with thiese further deals it could result in a lasting detramental effect on the US's already tenuous relationship with China.

Time article:Mexican gangsters send grisly message on crime

On tuesday september 20th in rush hour traffic in gulf region mexico two large trucks stopped in the middle of the freeway and dumped 35 bodies onto the road to send a message. Many of the bodies bore signs of torture, the bodies included 12 women and 3 children, the trucks had been intended for fruit cargo transfer but had been converted to carry the bodies. This display transcends any previous displays of depravity committed by drug lords and is expected to provoke further chaos as others vie to outdo each other.

Ruby Bridges

Ruby Bridges was born in Mississippi in 1954. She was raised on a farm during hard times and was moved to the city at a young age in pursuit of opportunity. In 1960 the black kindergarteners in the city took a test to see if they would be move to a white school and Ruby passed. When she arrived there was a mob of angry protestors there yelling, she had to be escorted into the school building by state marshals. When she got into the school all of the white parents took their kids out and ruby was the only one in the school. Finally school year over the course of the school year increasing numbers of the kids started coming back until the class was back until the attendance record had returned to normality.

re:Nearly 600 firefighters working BWCA wildfire

About a month ago a huge wildfire began in northeastern Minnesota, about 600 firefighters are working on it currently and have managed to contain it and extinguish about 19 percent of it. Heavier than expected rain in the past weeks have allowed the firefighters to make substantial progress in it but much of the forests were burned or are still burning. The wildfire was apparently caused by a bolt of lightning striking the dry underbrush and igniting the leaves, 147 square miles have already been burned and the fire is heading back towards the boundary waters area. Firemen are currently using every tool and vehicle at their disposal to combat this fire but the damage has already become severe.

Jonosboro shootings research

On March 24th 1998 two middle school students, Andrew Golden and Mitchell Johnson, shot and killed 4 students and a teacher, wounding many others, after ambushing the students as they fled the school after a fire alarm was pulled. Police later found a stockpile of other weapons in their supply van. As they were 13 and 11 they couldn't be charged as adults and were sentenced as delinquints and held until their 21st birthdays.

Poll:Americans favor Obama on economy

In a recent poll it was revealed that most americans trust president Obama over republicans in congress on economic matters. Ironically this was conducted after a second poll that revealed presidential approval was at an all time low. Generally, americans reported feeling scared or angry about the economic future of the country.

Firmen rescue three in duplex fire

On Wednesday morning a fire was called into the fire station in an uptown neighborhood, firemen reacted quickly and efficiently to rescue three victims. All victims were hospitalized including the two others that escaped without the firemen's assistance and are receiving medical attention though it appears all should be relatively unscathed. The call came in around 5:30 wednesday morning and at around 7:oo fire crews are still working to contain the fire later wednesday morning.

Google+ has introduced a new system of social gaming that is meant to create a greater appeal for their site as opposed to facebook. This has drawn further attention to them as an alternate social networking site and competition to facebook. They've one-upped facebook by giving a greater incentive to game developers and offered the casual interactive environment of other online games, I enjoy that its brought interest in video games to a far greater number of people who would never have considered them before. Now however I predict that though they have superior games google+ will still fail to replace facebook as the primary social networking site of choice.

repairs to vandalized bridge report

On monday, repairs were made to the vandaliztion of the 2007 bridge collapse memorial. Vandals removed 23 letters that composed the message on the memorial, officials have removed all letters and are prepared to make repairs soon. The wall holds messages for bridge collapse survivors, no arrests have been made for the vandalization.

US stock futures down

Following speeches by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and president Obama US stocks fell with the world market. Chairman Bernanke theorizes this was caused largely by reduced consumer spending though he introduced no new plans to aid in this, following this speech stocks fell. Later that day Obama introduced a $447 million stimulus package to relieve taxpayers its not confirmed it will pass congress as it is currently controlled by republicans who are opposed to new spending.

Investigators not buying Sensers story in deadly hit and run.

Amy Senser has informed investigators through a written statement that she was responsible for the killing of 38 year old Ansoune Phantavong in a hit and run crash on August 23 going west on I-94. The evidence is stacked against her as investigators are now reviewing the GPS locations of all family members that may have been responsible, investigators are now working to pinpoint Senser and each of her four daughters' location on the night of the crime. The Phantavong family is also seeking over $50,000 on wrongful death charges.

Colin Campbell is an athletic honor roll student enrolled in his sophomore year at EVHS, he plays defense for the soccer team in his spare time. He has played percussion for the EVHS concert band and thoroughly enjoys the Vibraphone as his instrument of choice, though he is proficient as well with a variety of other instruments, he has ceased to play for the band based on his great disdain for lessons. Colin has three sisters (2 older, and 1 younger)he enjoys their company and lives with them in Eagan MN, he also enjoys a variety of first person shooter games and plays with friends over the PSN (play station network). He’s vacationed recently to Florida with his family; he described this as the best day of his life, while there he visited Universal Studios and a series of other sites. Colin enjoys the historical fiction genre and has read many books pertaining to historical wars and figures in US history; Colin has a rather dark sense of humor and finds comedy in many unlikely situations.
